Vango is one of the best-selling air bed brands in the UK, and for good reason — their beds are well-made, comfortable, and widely available. But finding the right air bed pump for a Vango air bed still trips people up. Which valve does your model use? Will a third-party air mattress pump work? Here is everything you need to know.
Vango Valve Types
Most Vango air beds use one of two valve types:
-
Standard Boston valve — the wide, screw-top opening found on the majority of Vango single, double, and raised beds. Any air bed pump with a Boston valve nozzle will fit.
-
Vango AirSpeed valve — a wider, flatter valve designed for faster airflow on premium models. This works best with Vango's own pumps, though some universal nozzles also seal adequately.
Vango's Own Pump Range
Vango Rechargeable Air Pump
This is the obvious first choice. Vango designed it with their own beds in mind, so nozzle fit is guaranteed. It offers around 300 L/min, charges via USB-C, and handles three to four full inflations per charge. Lightweight and compact, it is the air mattress pump most Vango owners end up buying.
Vango Double Action Foot Pump
Vango's manual foot pump is a reliable, inexpensive backup. The double-action mechanism cuts inflation effort in half compared to single-action alternatives, and the included nozzle set fits all current Vango air bed valves.
Third-Party Pumps That Work with Vango
Because most Vango air beds use a standard Boston valve, pumps from other brands work fine:
-
Coleman 12V and rechargeable pumps — include a Boston valve adapter as standard
-
Outwell mains and battery pumps — their universal nozzle kit covers Vango valves
-
Yellowstone budget foot pumps — perfectly adequate for Vango beds with Boston valves
The only exception is Vango beds with the AirSpeed valve. For these, Vango's own pump or a universal adapter set with a wide flat nozzle is the safest option.
Inflation Tips for Vango Air Beds
- Inflate at the tent site, not in the car — Vango raised beds are bulky once full
- Fill to about 90% firmness, then lie on the bed and fine-tune by adding or releasing a little air
- In cold weather, over-inflate slightly — air contracts overnight and the bed softens
- Use the deflation mode on your electric air bed pump to pack down — Vango beds compress much flatter when mechanically deflated
