The Add-Ons That Transform Your Camp Cooking
A stove on its own boils water and heats pans. Add the right accessories and it becomes a proper outdoor kitchen. From griddle plates that turn your double burner into a flat-top grill, to windshields that triple your fuel efficiency, these extras are inexpensive but genuinely impactful. With summer 2026 approaching, now is the time to round out your camp cooking setup.
Griddle Plates
A cast iron or non-stick griddle plate sits across one or both burners and gives you a flat cooking surface for pancakes, eggs, bacon, burgers, halloumi and anything else that benefits from direct contact heat. Campingaz produces griddle plates sized for their double burner stoves, and universal griddles fit most standard stoves. The key specification is size — measure your burner spacing and buy a griddle that spans both hobs for maximum cooking area, or a single-burner plate for smaller setups.
Cast iron griddles retain heat brilliantly and develop a natural non-stick patina over time, but they are heavy. Non-stick aluminium griddles are lighter and easier to clean but less durable. For car camping where weight is irrelevant, cast iron wins. For packing light, go aluminium.
Grill Grates
A grill grate converts your stove into a rudimentary BBQ. Place it over the burner and you can grill sausages, kebabs, fish and vegetables directly over the flame. The flavour is not quite charcoal-grilled, but it is a step up from pan-frying. Ensure the grate sits securely on the pan supports and is rated for direct flame contact. Cheap chrome-plated grates can flake — look for stainless steel or enamelled options.
Windshields
We have dedicated an entire guide to wind protection, but the short version: a folding aluminium windshield costing £5–10 can reduce fuel consumption by 50% or more in windy conditions. It is arguably the single best-value camping stove accessory available. Choose one tall enough to shield your stove and pan, and wide enough to wrap around three sides.
Camping Kettles
A proper camping kettle with a whistle and a cool-touch handle makes hot drinks dramatically easier than boiling water in an open pan. Kettles sit more securely on pan supports than mugs, pour more safely and boil faster due to their conductive bases and lids. Aluminium kettles are lighter; stainless steel kettles are more durable.
Camp Toasters
A folding camp toaster sits on top of your stove burner and holds four slices of bread above the flame. It is a low-tech, lightweight accessory that transforms breakfast. Toast requires attention — turn the bread regularly and keep the flame on low to avoid charring. But hot buttered toast at the campsite is one of summer 2026's simplest pleasures.
Stove Stands and Tables
Dedicated camp kitchen stands position your stove at a comfortable working height with storage shelves below for cookware, ingredients and fuel. They are bulky to transport but invaluable on extended trips where you set up once and cook for days. For shorter trips, any stable folding table serves as a stove platform.
Carry Cases
A padded carry case protects your stove during transport and keeps greasy components away from other gear. Coleman and Campingaz include cases with many models. Aftermarket universal cases fit most standard-size single and double burner stoves.
