Camping in good old blighty might not sound glamourous. In fact, there are a good many people who wouldn’t even consider camping against being pampered in a hot clime. But for those who have a sense of adventure, pitching a tent in an unknown UK destination could be a lot worse.
But you don’t just pick up and pitch a tent on the nearest available patch of grass. There are important things to remember.
We’re used to it by now. In any given day we can experience a blizzard, a hurricane, a scorching drought, and a flood. That’s all before teatime. It does make it difficult to plan for camping in certain seasons.
The internet is a wonderful thing. We can check the weather a couple of days in advance with a degree of certainty. Make sure, before you head out, that you check on the weather, so you know what to pack.
We might not have the most dangerous animals in the world. However, there are many ways to get hurt whilst camping. There could be broken glass, or you could fall on stones or thorns. It’s best not to be complacent when preparing for your camping holidays.
Make sure you have a full usable first aid kit complete with eyewash, plasters, and bandages. You never know when you’ll have a minor whoopsie or gnarly accident. As the saying goes, “better safe than sorry.”
You would hope that every campsite you frequent will have toilet tissue in their communal toilets. However, that isn’t always the case. You don’t want to find out the hard way. Just in case they aren’t restocked in time for you to use them, it is better to make sure you take some spares with you.
This is important advice, especially if you have young children with you. Don’t find yourself caught short at a key moment. A couple of rolls of toilet paper rank highly on your must-haves for camping.
If you are likely to wander away from your campsite, it is best to carry water with you. These are useful in case of first aid emergencies, or just when you’re between towns.
Bringing your own reusable water bottles means you can have fresh and clean water wherever you wander. There aren’t many places in the wild that you can trust the water. So take bottles with you to fill up at each place you visit.
If this is your first time camping, you don’t want to find yourself in the middle of a field miles from the nearest village. As much as you might want to get away from it all to some degree, you might want to fill your days with things to do.
Check what is around you. Find out if there are any festivals, sights to see, or beaches where you can enjoy a stroll. This will make sure you have a great holiday as well as getting to enjoy the experience of camping.
