What size awning do I need for my caravan?+

Match your caravan's A-measure (the length of the awning rail from corner to corner) to the awning's listed size range. Most caravan manufacturers publish this dimension in the user manual. Awnings list a size range like 950 cm, so match your A-measure to the right band.

Air awning or poled awning — which is better?+

Air awnings inflate via tubular air beams and pitch much faster, especially solo. Poled awnings use traditional aluminium or fibreglass poles — slightly cheaper, slightly lighter to carry. Air is more forgiving in wind because the beams flex; poled is more traditional and easy to spot-repair. Both have their place.

What's a drive-away awning?+

A drive-away awning is a freestanding shelter designed to attach to your campervan or motorhome. You pitch it, drive away to explore for the day, and come back to your basecamp without packing the awning down. Most attach via a roof rail or kador strip.

Do I need an awning carpet?+

An awning carpet keeps feet dry and warm, prevents water pooling on the groundsheet, and lets you walk barefoot or sock-foot. For full-season touring it's a fundamental upgrade. For weekend trips, a smaller groundsheet may be enough.

Can I leave my awning up overnight?+

Most modern air awnings are wind-tested and built for overnight pitching. Always peg out properly, use storm straps and tie-downs, and lower the awning if a high-wind warning is issued. Don't leave a porch awning unsecured in unpredictable spring weather.

How do I clean and reproof my awning?+

Brush off loose dirt while the awning is dry, then sponge with cool soapy water and rinse with a hose. Don't pressure-wash — it can damage seams. Reproof every 1-2 seasons with a spray-on or wash-in reproofer to maintain water resistance.
