What size awning do I need for my caravan?+

Match your caravan's A-measure (the length of the awning rail from corner to corner) to the awning's listed size range. Most caravan manufacturers publish this dimension in the user manual, and most awnings will state a size range like 950 cm or 250–260 cm height. If your A-measure doesn't fit a single awning size, oversized models with adjustable straps can fit a range of caravans.

Do I need 12V or 240V air conditioning?+

12V air conditioning runs from your leisure battery and solar setup, making it ideal for off-grid touring and wild camping. 240V units are more powerful and run from your site hookup, but won't work without mains power. Many modern split AC units (like the Mestic SPA-3100) can run on either depending on what's available — a great solution if you mix campsites with off-grid stops.

Are wheel clamps and hitch locks insurance approved?+

Most caravan and motorhome insurance policies require Sold Secure-approved security devices (rated Bronze, Silver or Gold). Brands like Milenco, AL-KO, and maypole offer insurance-approved hitch locks and wheel clamps — every product page on our site lists certification details. Always check your specific policy wording for the required level.

What's the difference between a porch awning, a full awning and a drive-away awning?+

A porch awning is a small awning that attaches to part of your caravan's awning rail — quick to pitch and easier to handle. A full awning attaches to the entire rail, providing maximum living space but taking longer to pitch. A drive-away awning is freestanding, designed for campervans and motorhomes — you can drive away from it and leave it pitched on site.

Do I need a leisure battery if I'm always on hookup?+

Yes — a leisure battery still earns its keep even with regular hookup. It powers your 12V appliances and lighting when the mains is off, evens out current to extend appliance life, and provides backup if the site hookup fails. It also lets you arrive on a pitch and have power immediately, before you've connected to the post.

What's a chemical toilet vs a cassette toilet?+

A cassette toilet is built into your caravan or motorhome — the waste tank slides out from a service door for emptying. A chemical or portable toilet is freestanding and self-contained — you carry the whole unit to the dump point. Cassettes are convenient on long tours; portables are flexible for awning use, festival pitches, or as backup.
