Victron 100/50 SmartSolar MPPT Charge Controller/Regulator (50A) - Powerful Sola

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/50 is a solar charge controller for 12V or 24V battery systems, with the battery voltage selected automatically. It accepts up to 100V open-circuit voltage from your solar panels and charges the battery at up to 50A. Its ultra-fast maximum power point tracking improves energy harvest by up to 30% compared with PWM charge controllers, and if panels are partly shaded it locks on to the optimum power point rather than a lesser one.

Bluetooth is built in, so you can set up, monitor and update the controller from the VictronConnect app on your phone, and a VE.Direct port provides a wired data connection to a GX device, PC or other devices. It has no cooling fan, delivers its full output current up to 40°C, and will start charging even a battery that has been discharged to zero volts.

Applications include recreational vehicles and marine use. Nominal PV power is 700W on a 12V battery and 1400W on a 24V battery; if more PV power is connected, the controller limits the input power. The panel voltage must exceed the battery voltage by 5V for the controller to start, and by at least 1V after that, and a PV array with a short-circuit current higher than 60A may damage the controller.

For a 12V battery, use 72 cells in series (two 12V panels in series or one 24V panel) for the highest controller efficiency, with a minimum of 36 and a maximum of 144 cells. At low temperatures the open-circuit voltage of a 144-cell array may exceed 100V, in which case use fewer cells in series. The controller sets itself to a 12V or 24V system one time only; to change the system voltage later, set it manually, for example with the app. Mount it vertically on a non-flammable surface with the power terminals facing down, close to the battery but never directly above it.
