What size tent do I need?+

A useful rule of thumb: pick 1 person more than your group. So a 4-person tent comfortably sleeps 3 with room for kit. For festivals, a 2-person works for a solo. For family camps, 5-6 person gives room for inflatable beds and a small living area.

What's the difference between an air tent and a poled tent?+

Air tents pitch by inflating tubular air beams — much faster and easier, especially solo. Poled tents use traditional aluminium or fibreglass poles. Poled is lighter to carry and tends to be cheaper; air pitches faster and is more forgiving in wind because the beams flex rather than snap.

Are blackout tents really worth it?+

If you camp with kids who wake at sunrise, yes — blackout sleeping pods can buy you 2+ extra hours of sleep. They use a darker fabric on the bedroom inner so dawn light is blocked. Adults benefit too in summer when sunrise is 4am.

What pegs do I need for hard ground?+

Standard tent pegs bend on hard or stony ground. For hardstanding pitches, festival sites or rocky terrain, switch to rock pegs (steel, hardened) or hardstanding pegs (specially shaped). Always carry a spare set.

How do I keep my tent waterproof?+

Most modern tents are waterproof out of the box. After a season or two, a reproof spray (like Fabsil) restores water resistance. Don't pressure-wash — it damages seams. Always pitch the tent in the garden to air-dry before storing.

Can I leave a tent pitched overnight?+

Yes — that's what tents are for. Always peg out properly, use storm guys in windy conditions, and lower the air beams (if you have an air tent) if a high-wind warning is issued. Don't leave a small pop-up unsecured in changeable spring weather.
