Why are Truma air conditioners more expensive than other brands?

Truma units are typically 30-50% more expensive than competitors because of higher-grade components, German-engineered build quality, lower noise levels (44-48 dB), and best-in-class power efficiency. The UK service network is also the most extensive in the leisure industry, which means easier warranty support and parts availability. For most touring caravanners replacing an old unit, Truma is the brand to aspire to - longevity and quietness genuinely justify the price tag.

What's the difference between the Truma Aventa and Truma Saphir?

Aventa units are rooftop-mounted - cooling output is highest and you keep all interior space, but they add 28-35 kg to roof load. Saphir units are locker/under-bench mounted - they keep roof load lower (important on caravans already carrying solar panels) and run quieter outside, but take up some storage space. For most touring caravans, the Aventa Comfort is the right choice. For larger motorhomes already heavy on roof load, Saphir often makes more sense.

Are Truma air conditioners genuinely quieter than Dometic?

Yes - independent dB measurements consistently put the Truma Aventa Comfort at 44-46 dB and the Dometic FreshJet at 47-49 dB at the indoor vent. The difference is small but noticeable when sleeping with the unit running. Truma also tend to have smoother compressor cycling, which prevents the louder on-off "kick" some Dometic users find disturbing.

How long should a Truma air conditioner last?

With normal use and annual filter changes, Truma air conditioners routinely last 10-15 years. The compressors are rated for 30,000+ hours of operation. The most common failure points after a decade are the control board electronics and the fan motor, both of which are still available as Truma spares. Many original Aventa units fitted in the early 2010s are still operating reliably today.

Can the Truma Aventa be installed on any caravan?

Most Truma Aventas are designed for caravans and motorhomes with a roof opening between 360 × 400 mm and 400 × 400 mm. If you have an older Dometic or Truma unit already fitted, replacement is usually a like-for-like swap. For new installations, check your roof thickness (Aventa supports 30-70 mm) and confirm the area has no internal obstructions (ducts, locker walls). Drop us your van's make, model and year and we'll confirm fitment before you buy.

What warranty do Truma air conditioners come with?

Truma air conditioners come with a 24-month manufacturer's warranty when purchased from an authorised UK dealer (which we are). Some products are eligible for an extended 3-year warranty when registered online with Truma within 28 days of purchase. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and component failure, not damage from incorrect installation - which is why we recommend professional fitting for new roof openings.

Will my Truma unit work outside the UK?

Yes - Truma air conditioners are designed for the European market and work across the UK, mainland Europe and beyond. They run on standard 230V mains power available at all European campsites. If you're touring outside Europe, double-check the local voltage and adapter requirements before plugging in.

Are spare parts and filters available for older Truma units?

Yes - Truma maintains spare parts availability for 10+ years after a model is discontinued. Filters are available for current and previous-generation Aventa, Saphir and combi units. If you have an older model and aren't sure which filter you need, message us with the part number from the data plate on your unit (usually inside the housing) and we'll match the correct spare.
