Frequently Asked Questions

How do I measure my caravan for an awning? +
Measure your caravan awning rail from one end to the other, following any curves, using a flexible tape or string. This gives you your A-measurement. Awnings are sized to fit a range (e.g., 900-925cm), so find the range that includes your measurement. For porch awnings, rail length is less critical as they do not span the full length.
What is the difference between air awnings and pole awnings? +
Air awnings use inflatable beams and can be pitched in under 15 minutes by one person, making them ideal for frequent tourers. Pole awnings use traditional fibreglass or steel poles, are generally lighter and more compact to transport, and often cost less. Both types are equally weatherproof when correctly pitched.
Do I need a groundsheet for my awning? +
A groundsheet is highly recommended. It keeps the interior clean and dry, adds insulation from cold ground, and protects the awning floor from wear. Choose a breathable groundsheet for grass pitches to prevent killing the grass, or a full waterproof SPS groundsheet for hardstanding and longer stays.
How do I look after my awning to make it last? +
Always dry your awning thoroughly before packing away to prevent mould and mildew. Store loosely rolled in a cool, dry place rather than tightly compressed. Clean fabric with lukewarm water and a soft brush, avoiding harsh detergents. Check zips, seams and poles before each trip and re-proof the fabric annually with a suitable waterproofing treatment to maintain weather protection.
