Frequently Asked Questions

What size tent do I need for family camping? +
For comfortable family camping, we recommend choosing a tent rated for 1-2 people more than your group size. A family of four would be comfortable in a 5-6 person tent, allowing space for gear storage and moving around. Consider a tent with separate bedrooms if you need privacy, and look for a good-sized living area for rainy days.
What sleeping bag temperature rating do I need for UK camping? +
For spring and summer camping in the UK (April-September), a sleeping bag rated to around 5C is usually sufficient. For year-round camping or if you feel the cold, choose a bag rated to 0C or below. The comfort rating rather than the extreme rating is the temperature most people will be comfortable at.
Are inflatable tents better than pole tents? +
Inflatable air tents are quicker to pitch (often under 10 minutes) and easier for one person to set up, making them ideal for families and frequent campers. Pole tents are typically lighter, more compact when packed, and often more affordable. Both types perform equally well in bad weather when properly pitched.
How do I look after my tent to make it last? +
Always dry your tent thoroughly before storing to prevent mould and mildew. Store loosely in a cool, dry place rather than tightly compressed. Clean mud and dirt with cold water and a soft cloth. Re-proof the flysheet annually with a suitable waterproofing spray, and check seams and zips for wear before each trip.
