How Dometic combi units work

They're reverse-cycle heat pumps. In cooling mode they work like a standard air conditioner. In heating mode the refrigerant cycle reverses, drawing heat from outside air and pumping it into your living space. The result is efficient warmth down to ambient temperatures of around 0–5°C — usually paired with a gas backup heater for proper winter touring.

Sizing your combi unit

Combi units are heavier than cooling-only units (typically 25–40 kg) and draw more current — both factors to check against your van's roof load rating and electrical system. As a rule: 1.7 kW heating / 1.7 kW cooling suits caravans up to 6m, 2.4 kW for larger touring caravans and small motorhomes, 3 kW+ for full A-class motorhomes. Not sure?
